5 Extremely Talented Cricketers Who Were Embroiled In Cricketing Crimes!

While there have been many players who have committed one or the other different crimes in cricket from fixing matches to ball tampering to spot fixing. From domestic leagues to International level, there have been many players who have been involved in various activities, but these were the 5 big names in International cricket who were actually too talented to do all this at the first place.

S Sreesanth

His enigmatic energy, passion and speed coupled with his aggression and enthusiaism was a perfect ingredient of a fast bowler which India was lacking for many many years. S Sreesanth was also damn entertaining on the field but one wrong move and his career got shut down completely. All thanks to his spot fixing in IPL in 2013 while playing for Chennai Super Kings where he was eventually suspended for life after giving confessions.

Mohhamad Azharruddin

One of the most artistic & fluent stroke makers with the best wristworks, Azhar as he was fondly called was caught much later and almost at the fag end of his career, so it did not create much of a loss or impact to his career but he eventually was suspended from Cricket in all its capacity for life when he was found guilty of accepting money from bookies in 1999 and throwing away matches in 1996. Azhar later confessed to everything. He also confessed to throwing away a ODI match against Pakistan at Jaipur! It was because of his life ban, azharruddin’s career ended at 99 Tests itself.

Hansie Cronje

The former South African cricketer confessed to fixing matches for south africa and also revealed a few more names including Gibbs and Azharuddin, while Gibbs was proved innocent and was left off after a initial ban of few matches and a monetary fine, Hansie cronje and Azharuddin were totally banned from cricket and any activities related to cricket. Hansie Cronje was convicted and also confessed he was introduced to bookmakers of Dubai and England in 1996 where in he fixed two ODI matches, amongst them was one against Sri Lanka in Rajkot.

Salman Butt

The former Pakistan skipper was a permanent opener of Pakistan, there was also no denying the fact that Butt was stylish and suave left handed batsman with lots of temperament. However Salman was found guilty of match fixing as well as spot fixing in test matches against England at Lords in 2010 and was subsequently banned from playing International cricket for 10 years as well as prisoned for a few months.

Mohhammad Asif

Asif’s pace and swing was a typical stuff of Pakistani fast bowling legends which Pakistan is known for. We have seen him rattle the stumps of Sehwag, Laxman, Tendulkar and Dravid in the same day with his enormous swing and pace. Mohhammad Asif was not only economical but also a consistent bowler & was the “about to be” pace spearhead of Pakistan after the departure of Shoaib Akhtar. However, Asif was a part of the infamous trio consisting of Salman butt and Mohhamad Amir in the spot fixing scandal against England in Tests and his career got ended eventually.

While players like Nayan Mongia, Ajay Jadeja were also equal perpetrators but their name isn’t mentioned because they were not as enormously talented as Azharruddin or any other players in the list. Even two two former Pakistan captains, Salim Malik and Asif Iqbal, two former Sri Lanka captains, Arjuna Ranatunga and Aravinda De Silva, Herschelle Gibbs and Australian batsmen Mark Waugh and Dean Jones were allegedly involved but none of them were proved guilty or convicted.

Mohhammad Amir is also a big name and talented but he has made return to International cricket. So his name is not included. Amir has been given a one more chance since he was only 18 years during that time.
