Bangladesh has consistently raised their stakes over the last 5-6 years with some emerging talents and breath-taking performances. They also have a tendency to shock now and then the most powerful teams by defeating them in a way no one can expect.
At the other end is the next gen India under Captain Kohli which is on its way to become one of the most powerful sides right now in all the formats. Also this goes without saying that players like Kohli, Rahane, KL Rahul, Pujara & Vijay are getting polished with time to fill in the big shoes of Tendulkar, Sehwag, Dravid & laxman. So it will surely be a great encounter for India to face off their neighbors and these are surely the players to watch out for in the upcoming one off test match which starts from February 9, 2017.
- Cheteshwar Pujara
Pujara will be a tentative player to lookout for as he had a good start in the test series against England but he has was not able to convert his 30’’s and 40’s into big scores like he usually does. It’s also a good opportunity to score a big one against a relatively lesser strong opponent like Bangladesh and get back to his groove.
- Abhinav Mukund
Abhinav gets a test recall and this should be a big opportunity for a player who has played a lot of first class cricket but has struggled to cement his place in the national side.
- Hardik Pandya
More than a good perfomance expected from him, the talented all-rounder Pandya will have to shun his image as a specialist T20 and One Day player. He is definitely much more than slogging with the bat and bowls well too & can’t get a better chance than this to prove his mettle.
- Virat Kohli
Well Kohli is always a default name in the ‘players to watchout for’ lists but we are mentioning this for a altogether different reason. It will be amazing to see Kohli who has had a string of low scores in the last 3 T20’s against England on whether he bounces back to his regular test form which he had in the test series against England.
- Karun Nair
This boy had scored one of the most calm, soothing and classiest triple hundred in the recent times. Karun nair has a big appetite for runs and his first class records and his recent triple century against England are a testimonial for it. It will be a great chance to pounce upon the Bangladeshi bowlers and again make some memorable performances to his name.
- Liton Das
The new age batting sensation of Bangladesh is also hailed as a successor to the skipper Mushfiqur Rahim, the 22year old right handed wicket-keeper batsman has shown a lot of promise and he recently scored a double century in first class cricket. He has got a call up and all eyes will be on him as he will be raw & eager to show his class with the bat.
Mahumudullah is a perfect mixture of Afridi, Chris Cairns and Mohhamad Ashraful as he has imbibed qualities from all of them. He has the hard hitting abilities like Afridi, he has a temperament & can bowl medium pace like Chris Cairns & like Ashraful (who was inconsistent) he can shock you at times with his brilliant perfomance. He is yet to prove his mettle in the test format as far as consistency is concerned and this will be the best platform for him to showcase his talent.
- Sabbir Rahman
He averages 35 in the 5 tests he has played so far and he has a lot to prove because he looks very confident against the pace bowlers and he will get to face a promising bowling line up of India to display his batting prowess. Though just a one off test, but it can play a huge role in his career if he performs nicely in the two innings he gets to play against India.
- Soumya Sarkar
23yr old Soumya has strengthened the top order of Bangladesh over the past one and a half year with some memorable performances. Soumya has had a good start in his one day career too with an average of almost 40 so far( “average of 40”which is a rare feat as far as Bangadeshi batsman are concerned) He is also a handy bowler & this will be a breeding ground for the youngster to face such a big test team like India.
- Taskin Ahmed
When he comes and takes that stride, he gives those vibes of genuine fast bowlers of the 90’s. Though early to say but to some extent Taskin also looks like an ideal replacement for their veteran pacer Mashrafe Mortaza. He will certainly be a bowler to look out for against India.
- Mehedi Hasan
Just 19 and he gets to play against one of the top test teams in the world. Mehedi has been very promising so far with 23scalps in just 4 tests and he will certainly try his best to trouble the likes of Kohli ‘s aggression & Rahane and Pujara’s defence.
Lets hope for a great test match ahead!
